St. Paul is a 5 for 5 church PDF Print E-mail

5for5.jpgA 5 for 5 church is one that in addition to contributing to Our Church's Wider Mission also contributes to the four UCC special offerings.

The Christmas Fund — formerly known as "Veterans of the Cross" — helps to provide supplemental monies for pension and health insurance premiums to low-income retirees. At Christmas, the offering provides gift checks to hundreds of annuitants, but it also provides emergency assistance to clergy and lay employees and their families throughout the year.

One Great Hour Sharing—is an interdenominational offering that makes real the love of Christ for individuals and communities around the world who suffer the effects of disasters, conflict, or severe economic hardship, and for those who serve them through gifts of money and time. Our mission team witnessed this work when in New Orleans in 2006 providing help for recovery after Katrina.

Neighbors in Need—is a special mission offering of the UCC that supports ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United States. One-third of NIN funds support the Council for American Indian Ministry (CAIM). Two-thirds of the offering is used by the UCC's Justice and Witness Ministries (JWM) to support a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts and direct service projects.

Strengthen the Church—through these gifts, our commitment to be a multiracial, multicultural church, open and affirming and accessible to all is furthered; strengthen and renew existing congregations; fund leadership for new congregations; provide exciting new programs for youth and young adults. Strength the Church provides leadership development for the whole church. These gifts are used, half by the Illinois South Conference and half by Local Church Ministries, for these purposes.
