What We Believe PDF Print E-mail

The organization of the United Church of Christ is such that each church is autonomous and relates to the other churches in covenant. So while many United Church of Christ churches may claim the same beliefs as we do here at St. Paul United Church of Christ it is not necessarily true that all UCC churches believe exactly as St. Paul UCC does.

  • We believe worship is central to our church’s life, so we worship every Sunday of the year, celebrating the sacrament of Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month, welcoming to The Lord’s Table all who want to know the Spirit of Christ among us.
  • We believe God claims us in our baptism. Thus we are all sons and daughters of the God who values every person.  We believe diversity is God’s plan and we welcome all people.
  • We believe the church is the Body of Christ and that Jesus Christ is its head.  We believe God wants the church to be one, so we celebrate our many ecumenical relationships. We understand the historic creeds of the church to be testimonies of faith, not tests.
  • We believe the Bible is the authoritative witness to the Word of God and so we ground our community and our individual lives in it.  We believe God has more truth and light to break forth from the Word.
  • We believe that God calls each of us to discipleship, to live in this world in the way and Spirit of Jesus Christ our Lord, shaping our lives by his witness and word.
  • We believe God calls us to be active partners in God’s mission so we act to make God’s kingdom visible here on earth, working with other churches and institutions in our community and throughout the world

We hope that our beliefs resonate with you and invite you to explore more of our web site to discover how our beliefs influence our faith and how we put our beliefs into action in service to the Lord.
