A PLACE THAT OFFERS LIFE

St. Paul United Church of Christ, 115 West B Street, Belleville, IL

A congregation that is truly being "church" brings people into a loving, life-giving relationship with God and others that is transformational. When a congregation is truly being "church", people find hope. They experience belonging. They extend and receive forgiveness. They are valued, even as God values them. This is the basic nature of the kingdom of God, where relationships model the very best aspects of family.
At St. Paul, we don't measure our effectiveness or success by the size of our building, budget or staff. We don't even measure it by how full our pews are on Sunday morning. At the end of the day, we find ourselves responding to a different set of questions. Kingdom-related questions. Questions like:

  • What does it mean for us to seriously follow Jesus in the 21st Century?
  • What difference are we making in the lives of our members and in our surrounding community?
  • How are we responding to the pain, injustice, and suffering around us?
  • What does it mean to be " spiritual"?
  • How do we incorporate spiritual practices into our daily lives?

The kingdom of God was important to Jesus. It was the centerpiece of his teaching. At St. Paul, we are doing our best to live into that kingdom. We think our commitment to this is evidenced in the shape and diversity of our ministry, and that it finds expression through our ongoing partnership with the Community Interfaith Food Pantry, Neighbors for Renewal, Beacon of Belleville, and the Franklin Neighborhood Community Association.
If you are looking for a faith community that not only places emphasis on meaningful worship and progressive education and reflection, but also is inclusive and actively engaged in diverse expressions of ministry, you just may find St. Paul to be the refreshing alternative you seek.
